Bio

Hannah Foerschler is a sound designer, musician, theatre artist, and audio engineer residing in Chicago.

Hannah was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, where she grew up as a classically trained musician, starting her formal music studies in elementary school and continuing through her undergraduate career. She studied music with a focus on vocal performance at Kenyon College, and graduated with a BA in Music from the institution in 2015. However, Kenyon was also where Hannah discovered a new passion of theatre sound design, which she has been pursuing ever since. After graduating from Kenyon in 2015, Hannah spent thirteen months apprenticing at the Purple Rose Theatre Company in Chelsea, Michigan, learning the ins and outs of professional non-profit theatre.

In 2018, Hannah moved to Chicago upon being accepted into the MA in Sound Arts and Industries program at Northwestern University. Her master’s work introduced her to a broader use of her sound design skills, including sound art, digital composition, audio engineering, and recording techniques. For her thesis research, she studied the phenomenon of digital music streaming manipulation, and her capstone project, Elephants, is an interactive sound installation she designed and built to engage participants with self-produced environmental sound. She graduated from the program in August 2019.

Hannah is currently a member of the Theatrical Sound Designers and Composers Association (TSDCA), and she continues to design for the Chicago theatre scene, podcasts, and any fascinating sound project she can get her hands on. Her recent design work includes shows with Stage Left Theatre, The Actors Gymnasium, Third Avenue PlayWorks (Sturgeon Bay, WI), Jackalope Theatre Company, Broken Nose Theatre Company, Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, Babes With Blades Theatre Company, and numerous other local companies, and you can hear her design work on the audio dramas The Vanishing Act and Unwell: A Midwestern Gothic Mystery as well as Pivot Art's SUPERFLUXUS. When she’s not doing something sound related, she likes spending time with her dog, Freya, or baking something.
